Thai Powerlifting Champions Set at to Conquer World Grand Prix II in Qatar
In a bid to secure coveted spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association is proud to announce the participation of nine powerhouse athletes in the upcoming World Grand Prix II, scheduled from December 4 to 14, 2023, in Doha, Qatar.
Led by the President of the Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association, Mr. Prachaya Keeratinant, the delegation comprises four male athletes and five female athletes, each a force to be reckoned with in their respective weight categories. The athletes are gearing up to compete fiercely in this crucial event, vying for the opportunity to represent Thailand on the Olympic stage.
Mr. Prachaya highlighted the significance of this tournament, emphasizing that it marks the beginning of a challenging journey for the Thai powerlifting team. He stated, "From this point forward, our Thai powerhouses have three more key competitions to accumulate points, securing their eligibility for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The World Grand Prix II sets the stage for this journey, followed by the Asian Weightlifting Championship in February 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and the World Cup 2024 in Phuket, Thailand, from March 31 to April 11, 2024."
The delegation includes distinguished male athletes:
• Mr Teerapat Chomchuen, 61 kg
• Mr Theerapong Silachai, 61 kg
• Mr Weeraphon Wichuma, 73 kg
• Mr Sarat Sumpradit, 102 kg
And accomplished female athletes:
• Miss Thanyathon Sukcharoen, 49 kg
• Miss Surodchana Khambao, 49 kg
• Miss Thanaporn Saetia, 59 kg
• Miss Suratwadee Yodsarn, 59 kg

• Miss Duangakson Chaidee, over 87 kg
The Thai delegation is not only comprised of elite athletes but also boasts a dedicated support team, including Team Manager Vice Admiral Somsak Prangthong, Coach Lieutenant Colonel Prasert Sumpradit, Coach Colonel Nopphadol Wanwang, Team Doctor Wuthichai Isara, and the official referees and coaches, including Ms. Aree Wiratthaworn, Ms. Jutathip Sriapron, Mr. Ronny Latupeirissa, and Ms. Prapasri Pinijchai.
In preparation for this significant endeavor, Mr. Prachaya extends his invitation to all supporters and enthusiasts to join in cheering for the Thai powerlifting team. He further expressed the team's gratitude for the continuous support from the Thai people, encouraging the athletes to give their best in pursuit of Olympic qualification.
