“Surin” is ready to organize the EGAT Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023
Thailand Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA) Joins Hands with Surin Province and EGAT to Announce Readiness for the EGAT Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023
[Bangkok, September 28, 2023] — In a remarkable collaboration aimed at promoting the sport of weightlifting and fostering young talent, Thailand Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA) ,Surin Province, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) have announced their preparedness to host the EGAT Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023. This prestigious event is set to take place from October 11th-14th and October 15th to 20th, 2023 at Srikhoraphum Pisai School, Surin Province.
The announcement was made during a press conference attended by General Wisut Dechsakul, the Secretary-General of the Thailand Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA) and the representative of the TAWA President, along with Mr. Somsak Prangthong, Director of the Electricity Usage and Social Affairs Division at EGAT, and Air Marshal Wattanachai Chareonrattanakorn, Committee Member and Technical Chairman of the Thailand Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA).
General Wisut Dechsakul expressed his excitement about the EGAT Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023, which will bring together top weightlifters from across Thailand to compete for the prestigious royal trophies bestowed by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The event will provide a platform for young talents aged 13 to 15 to showcase their abilities and aims to identify potential weightlifting stars who may represent Thailand on the global stage.
Mr. Somsak Prangthong from EGAT emphasized EGAT's commitment to supporting the development of youth, health, and sports in Thailand. EGAT has been a steadfast supporter of the Thailand Amateur Weightlifting Association since 2004, enabling the association to continuously enhance the capabilities of Thai weightlifters. EGAT's support aligns with their mission to nurture Thai athletes to achieve international success.
Air Marshal Wattanachai Chareonrattanakorn added that Srikhoraphum Pisai School, as the co-host of the event, has the necessary facilities, accommodations, personnel, and equipment to provide full support to athletes and officials. The school is renowned for its contributions to weightlifting and has earned global recognition with Olympic gold medals.
This year's EGAT Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships will see the participation of 40 teams from 33 clubs across Thailand. The club with the highest combined scores for male and female teams will be awarded the prestigious royal trophy from His Majesty the King. Additionally, EGAT will award honorary trophies to the top male and female teams.
This championship event will feature 33 Thai clubs and an additional 38 teams from two foreign countries, Malaysia and Myanmar, totaling 40 teams and 277 athletes—143 males and 134 females.
